Cornices & Valances

Both treatments top a window, but how they do it determines whether it is a Cornice or a Valance.
A Cornice is a type of valance that is a fabric covered frame, usually made of wood.
The bottom edge can be either straight or shaped.
A Valance is a fabric treatment that can be hung from either a board or a rod.
Triple-layered cornice for dimension
Tri-colored slouched pennant valance with contrast cording
Imperial valance mounted at transom height
The Cornice (above) has three layers of wood, padding and fabric, giving the treatment dimension as well as style. The Valance (above, middle) is made of three kinds of fabric attached to a fabric covered board.
Upholstered cornices with contrast overlays.

The Valance treatment shown above sits between the full-length windows and the transom above. It also helps to hide the blinds when fully retracted.

Pick up valance with shirred center and tassel
Imperial valance with double layered horns and box cut side cascades
Relaxed stagecoach valances with contrast ties
